Something's Fishy

There is a lot of disinformation about health insurance reform out there, spanning from control of personal finances to end of life care. These rumors often travel just below the surface via chain emails or through casual conversation. Since we can’t keep track of all of them here at the White House, we’re asking for your help. If you get an email or see something on the web about health insurance reform that seems fishy, send it to flag@whitehouse.gov.

The above paragraph was issued on the Whitehouse blog. The executive branch of our federal government is now asking us to report fellow Americans who disagree with a healthcare proposal. Health care! Not a terrorist plot, but health care!! Kids if your mommy or daddy disagree with the president on healthcare--REPORT THEM!!! If your grandparents are worried that government run health care will deny them services they need--LET BIG BROTHER KNOW!!! We're talking about HEALTH CARE!!! Please Mr. President, release terrorists from Guantanamo, but don't let senior citizens disagree with you on health care!!! Give me a break.

Can all you folks who voted for Obama and still support him please say a few words--Gestapo and KGB.

DW and I were just talking about this last night... I still can't believe how on the nose it is, and considering what we've seen in the past 6 months that's saying something.

Two more words: "thought police". Scary stuff.

Did I mention that you were very cute when you are unearthing conspiracy theories?

And what are the consequences of being reported Mr. Bates? Are people being reported or rumors? The answer makes a big difference. Will the folks who are spreading the rumors be immediately chained, locked up or, God Forbid, water boarded. My take on it is that the whitehouse would like to know about these outrageous rumors, that some call lies, so that they have the opportunity to dispel them. Much of what is being said ranges from, at the very least, an example of stretching the truth to an outright lie. Admittedly, the whitehouse has done an inadequate job at making a case for a plan for healthcare reform. But I don't think either party does not know that there is a need for it. With the petty arguing and the ugly politics of it all, nothing is going to get done.

Consequences are the big question mark. Who knows for sure what they will or could be. Would it take your aforemetioned atrocities to make this a bad thing? Once your or my name is on such a list then we could be the ones who find out the answer.

The government keeping a list of individuals not in agreement with their policies is something I find unacceptable. To me it reeks of statism. History tells us that such lists have been used to do those very acts you suggested. The acts may have been slow in coming but they eventually did come.
